Why your glasses keep sliding

Glasses slip for a handful of reasons: loose temple screws, worn nose pads, oily skin, or a frame that was never quite the right fit. Good news — all but the last are fixable at home in minutes.

Fix 1: Tighten the temple screws

Loose hinges let the arms splay, so the frames ride down your nose. A precision driver and a quarter-turn snug usually solves half of all slipping. Full tightening guide →

Fix 2: Adjust the nose pads (metal frames)

If the pads sit too wide, the glasses have nothing to grip. Gently squeeze the pads inward with fingertips (or padded pliers) so they hug the bridge of your nose. Small moves, check often.

Fix 3: Replace worn pads

Hard, yellowed silicone pads lose their grip. Swapping in fresh soft pads restores the cushion and friction. Nose-pad replacement guide →

Fix 4: Anti-slip add-ons

💡 The 10-second test

After adjusting, tip your head forward. If the glasses slide, the pads need to come in a touch more or the temples need tightening. Repeat until they stay put through a head shake.

⚠️ Don't over-bend a plastic bridge

Plastic frames have no adjustable nose pads. Forcing the bridge to "tighten" cracks the finish or the frame. For plastic, rely on temple tension and ear hooks instead.
