The right daily clean
Most scratches come from how you clean, not what you clean with. Dust and grit act like sandpaper if you wipe them dry.
- Rinse lenses under lukewarm running water to float off grit.
- Add a drop of mild dish soap and rub gently with your fingers.
- Rinse, then dry with a clean microfiber cloth (not your shirt).
💡 Rinse before you wipe — every time
That 3-second rinse is the single biggest scratch preventer. Dry wiping grinds trapped particles into the coating.
What NOT to do
- Paper towels / tissues — fibers scratch coatings
- Your shirt tail — carries lint and grit
- Ammonia glass cleaner — eats anti-reflective coatings
- Hot water — can loosen lens adhesive over time
Weekly 2-minute checkup
- Tighten any loose hinge screws (how →)
- Wipe nose pads with a damp cloth to clear skin-oil buildup
- Inspect tips for cracks or lost screws
⚠️ Heat warps frames
Never leave glasses on a dashboard, near a heater, or in a hot car. Heat relaxes the frame's fit permanently and can pop lenses out. Store in a hard case at room temperature.
